Staying in
Nestled in the heart of historic Ballarat, luxurious Montrose of Ballarat
is the ideal launching place for many forays into the city and surrounds.
Montrose of Ballarat itself is a monument to Ballarat’s golden
past being the first bluestone residence built on the Ballarat goldfields
and the only one still standing. Browsing through Montrose’s memorabilia
will give much insight into both the cottage and the city itself.
In and around Ballarat
Just 1.2 km up Eureka Street, you will find The Eureka Centre, which
brings the story of the miners’ rebellion “the Eureka Stockade”
to life. A little further away, but still within easy walking distance,
is award-winning Sovereign Hill where you can step back in time to experience
life as it was in the 1850s. Sovereign Hill is also home to the dramatic
sound and light show “Blood on the Southern Cross” which
tells the story of the Eureka rebellion.
The City itself contains many historic buildings constructed during
the golden era of the late 1800s. One of the most impressive thoroughfares,
Lydiard Street is home to many of Ballarat’s heritage icons including
the Ballarat train station, Craig’s Royal Hotel, The George Hotel
and Victoria’s largest regional art gallery, the Ballarat Fine
Art Gallery.
But, Ballarat is not all about history. Another popular attraction less
than 3 kms from Montrose of Ballarat is the award-winning Ballarat Wildlife
and Reptile Park where you can experience close contact with native
animals in six hectares of peppermint gum woodland.
Adding to the range of attractions are Lake Wendouree, the Botanic Gardens,
The Golden City Paddle Steamer Museum and the Australian Ex-Prisoners
of War Memorial.
Coupled with these attractions are numerous restaurants and cafes for
relaxed or formal dining with a huge range of food styles and dining
experiences on offer
Exploring the region
From Ballarat you can take leisurely trips to many other towns or tourist
venues. First among these would be picturesque Daylesford which is renowned
for its fine cuisine or perhaps a tour of the many fine wineries that
dot the region
Montrose of Ballarat can arrange transport to these or any other regional
attractions that take your fancy.
